Landmark Aviation Completes Acquisition of Ross Aviation

(Houston, TX – August 1, 2014) Landmark Aviation has completed the acquisition of Ross Aviation, a network of fixed based operations located throughout the United States.

Headquartered in Denver, Colorado, Ross Aviation operates in major cities and resort destinations within the U.S., including Denver (BJC), Santa Fe (SAF), Miami (OPF), and six locations in Hawaii. The acquisition has increased the size of Landmark’s network from 57 to 75 locations globally.

"We are very excited to welcome these 18 locations into our network," stated President and CEO Dan Bucaro. "They are geographically a good fit with their strength in the west and Hawaii. We also look forward to building strong relationships with the various airport authorities and being active in each of those communities."

The Ross locations will begin operating under the Landmark Aviation brand immediately.

Open House Held for Newly Built Landmark Aviation LFPB Facility

(Houston, TX – July 2, 2014) An open house was held on June 26 to highlight the newly constructed 8,500 square-foot Landmark Aviation Aéroport de Paris le Bourget (LFPB) facility. Built on the existing property, the new facility is adjacent to Landmark’s hangar and is located at Avenue de l’Europe 93350 Le Bourget.

"We are very pleased to announce the completion of our new, state-of-the-art facility at Aéroport de Paris le Bourget," Landmark Aviation President and CEO Dan Bucaro stated. "We appreciate the support provided by the airport authority throughout this process, and look forward to not only better serving our existing customers, but to increasing business at Le Bourget."

The new terminal includes a VIP lounge, bistro, pilot lounge, passenger lobby, flight planning center, prayer room, and two conference rooms. The construction project has taken approximately one year. In addition to the terminal building, Landmark will add covered parking to the facility.

"Our new facility is much more spacious and offers additional amenities that will allow us to provide a better experience for our customers," Landmark Aviation’s LFPB General Manager Denis Bourgois said.

GlobalAir.com Displays “Oshkosh Specials” To Flyers Heading To EAA AirVenture

June 18, 2014 – Globalair.com announced today it has launched its annual “Oshkosh Specials” page. Since 2010 Globalair.com has produced this seasonal webpage, giving flyers heading to EAA’s AirVenture the ability to review discounts and special deals offered from FBOs nationwide just for them.

Jeff Carrithers, President and CEO of Globalair.com explains, “FBOs across the nation know Oshkosh is right around the corner and they also know there are thousands of aircraft flying from all over the nation heading to the event. They offer great specials for pilots, from large fuel discounts to free parking to free camping access. Some FBOs make it a little fun by offering food of some type. I always enjoy the free doughnuts myself, but some FBOs even offer hamburgers and barbeques.”

This is the fourth year Globalair.com has presented this information online to both aviators heading to Oskhosh and FBOs offering discounts. It is also the only aviation website that offers several EAA AirVenture specials in one place, with dozens of deals and discounts posted from across the nation. It is a good idea to check back often throughout the month of July as it is being up dated frequently. For those flying to Oshkosh, this is a must, as it will give pilots and operators plenty of time to review the listings, contact the FBOs and plan a cross country flight to the show. The page will also be available for the trip back home.

Got Gas? Tell the World!

When scanning the airports on GlobalAir.com’s Airport Resource Center, you may notice that some FBOs are promoted at both the top and bottom of the website. Why is that? Read on!

Is your FBO taking advantage of websites that promote your services and fuel prices? It should be! Not only is this a (virtually) free medium to let pilots know who you are and where you are, but it lets everyone know your personality and puts a human face on your company. And if you’ve been in the aviation business for a while, you know the value of being known personally.

The great news – you don’t have to dump a lot of your valuable time into self-promotion online to get something out of it. Many of the services available you can spend as little as 5 minutes a MONTH to make work for you! Do remember that the more you put into anything, the more you get out of it – but in the fast-paced online world, having NO presence is a bigger crime than having a minimal presence. Think back 20 years and imagine not being listed in the phone book, and the impact that would have had on your company!

Possibly the easiest thing you can start doing to increase attention for your FBO is to frequently update your fuel prices online. I’ve heard too many times, "My fuel prices rarely change, so why bother?" Simple answer – pilots don’t know that! If they see that it’s been three months since you last updated your prices, they are going to assume that you don’t care enough to inform them long before they assume that the price is unchanged – are you sure you want to give that impression?

Every FBO that sells fuel should have their own page on GlobalAir.com that only they are allowed to update – and freely promote their facility. Make sure that all your information is accurate by going to this link, typing in your identifier code, then clicking on the link to your FBO to view how the world sees it. If there’s a lot of missing information, that’s easily remedied by logging in and adding what is missing.

Many points of interest can be added include which credit cards you accept, if you have courtesy cars or access to rental cars on site, what (if any) ramp fees you have, direct access to your website, and an interactive Google map to your location, and much more. Here is a great example of an FBO taking advantage of many of these free services.

Ok, let’s say you’re been around the block for a while now, and you’re ready to invest in the image of your FBO. Or you’ve taken the time to talk with your fuel provider and fuel card services to discover that they will reimburse you for some advertising you do (you HAVE done that, haven’t you?). Time to step up your presence by adding your logo, some photos of that facility you just upgraded, all the featured services and cards accepted and more – maybe even have your logo on the airport page itself! Here’s an example of an FBO that is going the extra mile to showcase everything they have to offer.

Finally, don’t forget to let all your friends know about your FBO using social media. While you can copy and paste links to your page, many sites like GlobalAir.com make it easy by including quick links to all the popular social media sites – just take a quick look around the page. You can’t get any simpler than this to let the world know where they can find the gas (and more) they are seeking!

What is 100SF?

There has been talk for years of "alternative fuels" and the impact that lead in all forms has upon the environment – ask any resident of Los Angeles at rush hour to see if gas emissions are a problem. One company that has been steadily making strides in this particular field is Swift Fuels, LLC, based out of West Lafayette, Indiana.

We met with Jon Ziulkowski, Vice-President of Commercial Operations, at Oshkosh this year. He was showing off a Cessna 150M that Swift Fuels has been flying for over two years on their patented unleaded 102+ motor octane (MON) Swift Fuel (100SF), a hydrocarbon blended fuel, specifically designed to replace 100LL Avgas. While the 150M has been reclassified Experimental, pilots won’t be expected to make this change themselves – the 150M was re-certificated for proof-of-concept purposes. Once their FAA certification is complete, Swift Fuels will be able to be used interchangeably.

"The primary benefit to Swift Fuels is that it is 100% unleaded, eliminating lead emissions in the atmosphere," explained Ziulkowski. "Another benefit is that there is no change in operation or performance, and it does not require you to put in a new fuel tank, or different corrosion proof materials throughout your engine. The 102 MON closely mimics 100LL – any aircraft flying today on low lead can easily make the transition to Swift Fuel." Other benefits include 7-15% improved range (MPG) over 100LL, lower deposits, less engine wear and tear, and potentially longer TBOs. And since the fuel components can be derived from a variety of biological sources – including sugars, starches, lignin, bio-waste and more – it has the potential to be a renewable fuel as well.

Swift Fuels began as a special collaboration between chemical engineering and aviation expertise at their offices adjacent to Purdue University. Beginning in 2005, several hundred samples were blended in small quantities and tested in the laboratory and through computer modeling software to find an unleaded replacement fuel for 100LL. From 2007 to early 2008, testing began to expand outside of Swift’s laboratories, and tests were conducted on small engines at the Delphi Municipal Airport (1I9). On April 16, 2008, SwiftFuel Sample 702, now called 100SF, was proven to meet all of the critical performance parameters set forth for aviation gasoline by ASTM D910.

To ensure the worldwide acceptance and use of SwiftFuel, Swift has taken the very important step of establishing a subsidiary in Europe, an ongoing process since late 2010. In January 2011, Swift Fuel GmbH was established as a registered company in Germany.

100SF fuel is to be balloted for "Production Specification" by the ASTM Fuel Task Force in the next 90 days. After that, engine and aircraft companies will be collaborating on the timing of the announcements for using 100SF fuel. Once the fuel is certified by both engine and aircraft companies, it can be purchased and used in the aviation marketplace. Swift Fuels believes pockets of availability of their fuel will appear in early 2014, and, as demand increases, they expect a much larger population of pilots will utilize their fuel in 2015 and beyond.
